Development of a mobile micro hydropower converter for use in emerging and developing countries

Research project of The Chair for Hydraulic Engineering (Promotion project)

back to all research projects

Short description

A mobile micro-hydro converter in the form of a hydrokinetic turbine is to be developed for decentralized energy supply in emerging and developing countries. The aim is to use components that are as inexpensive and robust as possible and ideally readily available locally, since they are used in other technologies, for example. Examples are electric boat motors or conventional alternators. The goal is not to achieve high energy quantities or efficiencies, but to provide small amounts of energy that are urgently needed locally.
