Short description

Simulation of flow velocities occurring during reservoir flushing at the Bodendorf site (Austria)
Simulation of flow velocities occurring during reservoir flushing at the Bodendorf site (Austria)

Numerous impoundments significantly prevent sediment transport in rivers, which reduces the urgently needed storage volume and leads to erosion of the riverbed below the reservoirs with serious consequences for habitat and the environment. In the project, the methods of reservoir flushing and the innovative continuous sediment transfer of the partner D-Sediment, which is currently under development, are used comparatively. Both measures will be planned and compared with current modeling technology under the condition of achieving ecological sediment continuity. Generalizations will be derived and discussed in order to enable an implementation at further dams.
